Welcome to Class 13!
We are kind, creative, happy year 4 children, who love to learn!
We are a hard-working class of 29 children and we are the best class in the world!
Our teacher is Miss Beard, who loves teaching year 4. To support our class we have the wonderful Mr Binney and Miss Rollinson.
We love hearing from the parents and carers of our children in Class 13 and we regularly update our class blog and Twitter to keep you informed of the creative and exciting things we have been learning about.
My door is always open if you ever wanted a chat before or after school. I am always happy to help.
We also have the Year 4 email if you wanted to email me about any worries or queries.
P.E.
Please try to have your PE kit in school every day. We expect children to bring their PE kits in a drawstring bag and remember to take them home regularly to be washed. Currently, our PE days are Mondays, alternative Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Homework
Homework will be set on a Friday to be handed in on the following Friday. One week the homework will be English based and the other will be maths based. It is important that your child completes homework as homework is a way to reinforce learning that has been done in class.
Reading
Daily diaries must be in school everyday.
Diaries will be checked every Thursday and children should have three or more reads in them.
Spelling
Children are also given 10 weekly spellings every Friday to be tested the following Friday.
What we’re learning
Autumn Term
The Scarecrow’s Dance
We started this term looking at The Scarecrow’s Dance as a whole school topic.
We did lots of creative learing, and produced some amazing pieces of art including: sketches of crows, collages of scarecrows and paintings of a dancing scarecrow.
The children have also written some amazing descriptive pieces of writing about the woodland! Keep your eyes open for these around the school as well as their fantastic art work.
Invaders and Settlers
This term we are doing an extremely excting topic named Invaders and Settlers.
Throughout this topic, we will focus on learning about the history of our islands from 550BCE until 1066, covering a whistle stop tour of the Celts, the Romans, Anglo Saxons, Vikings and Normans. We will be reading the book ‘There’s a Viking in my bed’ by Jeremy Strong!
TTRockstars Day
To kick-start our times table battle we all dressed up as rock stars and had a day full of rocking times tables.
All of Class 13 put so much effort into their outifts and looked like true rockstars!
Well done to everyone, and do not forget to keep practising your times tables.
Spring Term
Jamaica
This spring term Year 3 and 4 will be learning all about… Jamaica.
This is an exciting topic that we can’t wait to find out more.
When Life Gives You Mangoes
This term we will be reading ‘When Life Gives You Mangoes’
When Life Gives You Mangoes is a riveting debut middle-grade novel set on a small Caribbean island. This book explores a variety of important themes ranging from friendships, community, the influence of religion and superstition in Caribbean communities.
We are so excited!
Times Tables
In Year 4 times tables are really important and by the end of year 4 children should know up to 12×12.
TTRockstars is a great way for the children to practise their times tables and we will be doing lots of practise in class as well.
