Class 9

Welcome to Class 9!

In Class 9, we are a fantastic tream of individuals who love to learn. We are kind and polite to everyone and we fantastic citizens.

Our teacher is called Mrs Finney and on a Wedneday morning Miss Hives covers our class.

Our teaching assistants is called Miss Woolley.

We LOVE to read in Class 9! We read on a regular basis so please make sure your reading record is in school every day. Please remember to read regularly at home too (3 times a week) – you can earn reading tickets which contribute to our whole class reading reward. Children have the opportunity to change their reading book at the end of each day.

Maths homework will be set on a fortnightly basis. Tasks will be set based on the learning you have been doing with your maths teacher.

Spellings will be given every Friday and tested the following week. Remember to practise them every day!

Autumn Term 1 2022 – The Kingdom of Tiny Things


We will be starting the term off with our whole school project ‘The Scarecrow Festival’ before moving onto ‘The Kingdom of Tiny Things’ where we will be studying the incredible work of Samantha Bryan, a local artist famous for her brilliant fairy sculptures.

Autumn Term 2 2022 – Winter Wonders

This half term, we will be delving into the wonderful season of Winter. We will be looking at the seasonal changes as well as what we associate with Winter and using it to inspire our writing and art work.

Key Stage One… don’t forget to have a go at some creative homework this half term! We can’t wait to see what you get up to!

Spring Term 1&2 2023 – Incredible India

This half term we will be focusing on a new multi-cultural topic called ‘Incredible India!’ We will be looking at the different traditions and religious festivals that people celebrate in India as well as key facts about famous landmarks and cities there. We will also be trying lots of Indian food and snacks ready to design our own Indian meal. As an end of term treat, we will be doing our own colour dash inspired by the Holi festival of colour.

Summer Term 1 2023 – Preserve Our Planet

This half term, we will be exploring the wonderful world of David Attenborough! We will be delving into the story of his life so far and why he is an inspirational person. We will also be looking at the different continents and oceans in the world as well as animal prints and patterns in Art. We will be rounding off our half term with an exciting trip to The Deep to see how marine animals are protected from pollution in captivity.

Summer Term 2 2023 – Tell us a story!

For our final half term, we will be having our own story festival across the whole school! During the week commencing 19th June, we will be creating our own performance of a traditional tale with dancing, singing, acting and even some puppetry! Then, on Monday 3rd July, we will be hosting our whole school celebration afternoon where we will get the chance to show our story performances to the rest of the school – it’s going to be amazing!

P.E.

Our PE days are Monday and Tuesday.

(Please make sure your PE kit is in a carrier bag or drawstring bag. This will be sent home every week to be washed and should be returned the following Monday). Please make sure the PE kit  consists of a plain white T-Shirt, black shorts, pumps/trainers and a tracksuit for outside PE.

I love this one – chose the year group and then chose the spellings that you would like to practise.

Versatile maths game – practice doubles, halves, number bonds and times tables.

Save the Whale

Number bonds to 10 – such a useful set of facts to know. We use them for so many parts of our maths. Practice them with this lovely game.

Big Brown Bear

In year 1 we start learning about suffixes and in year 2 we learn about their spelling rules. Here is a nice game to start to understand that suffixes only make sense on some words. Build the jigsaws.

100 square splat

This is the 100 square that we use in class a lot. Its so useful for understanding 1 more, 1 less, 10 more, 10 less, multiples of 10 and counting in 2s or 5s.

Struggling with more or less? Here is the Gaitor song to help remember that the alligator’s mouth always opens to the largest number.
